HST 431 - Seminar in European History: Black DeathCourse Units: 1 (Fall; Sargent) A detailed examination of the origins, characteristics, and effects of the great pandemic that struck Europe in late 1347. Particular attention will be paid to current debates about the nature of the disease, its social, economic, and religious consequences, and its role in bringing the Middle Ages to an end. Students will write a research paper.
