MTH 061 - Math in the Public InterestCourse Units: 1 (Not offered this Academic Year) In what ways do advertisers, politicians, and other propagandists try to trick the public by exploiting our ignorance of or aversion to mathematical reasoning? This course explores key mathematical topics including statistics, probability, exponential and logarithmic functions, and visual/graphical representation of numbers, in the context of contemporary public policy issues such as the 2008 financial crisis, gaming institutions, population demographics, and climate change.
