HST 372 - Sex, Race and Gender in Latin America

(Winter; Meade) This course examines the history of the intersection of race, sex and gender in Latin America from the pre-colonial period to the present, especially as evidenced in the changing status of women and the patriarchal order.  This history traces the effect of broader societal transformations such as colonialism, imperialism, and economic and political developments on the gender division of labor and the construction of class, race and national identity.   Prerequisite(s): Any 100-level or 200-level history course or permission of the instructor.
