SPN 329 - Interruptions: The Paradox of Tradition in Spanish American PoetryCourse Units: 1 (Not Offered this Academic Year) Octavio Paz describes modern literature as a “tradition of discontinuity,” one that constantly rebels against itself in search of innovation. This course examines Paz’s assertion through the study of foundational Spanish American poets. As we read and discuss each poet’s contribution to modern literature we will also study the characteristics that manifest a Spanish American poetic tradition. The course’s objectives are centered on strengthening student’s process of language acquisition, developing analytical skills, and reinforcing writing proficiency through reading poetry. Students will also have the opportunity to share their knowledge and collaborate in a learning community through in-class discussion and oral presentations. Prerequisite(s): SPN 203 or permission of the instructor. CC: LCCS, HUL
