CLS 157 - Entrepreneurship in the Ancient World

(Not Offered this Academic Year) “Entrepreneurship” (or seizing upon and exploiting opportunity) is a mindset that has existed at various times and places. Through a variety of ancient sources, including legal, historical, and literary works, students will use the ancient world as a laboratory in which to observe and to assess what may or may not have constituted opportunity in the past and to examine strategies employed (as well as opportunities missed) for taking advantage of available resources in a variety of situations: economic, political, and religious.
