EGL 208 - Renaissance DramaCourse Units: 1 (Not Offered this Academic Year) (Offered once every four years) How various Renaissance playwrights represented those on the margins of the dominant culture, particularly the malcontent or madman (Marlowe’s Jew of Malta; Kyd’s The Spanish Tragedy; Marston’s The Malcontent), women (Middleton and Dekker’s The Roaring Girl, Webster’s The Duchess of Malfi, Ford’s ‘Tis a Pity She’s a Whore), the criminal (the anonymous Arden of Faversham), and sometimes the intersection of all three (Jonson’s Bartholomew Fair).
