SOC 207 - Sociology of the Black Religious ExperienceCourse Units: 1 (Not Offered this Academic Year) Sociology of Black Religious Experiences is a sociological analysis of a pivotal sector of Black communities, namely Black religious institutions and spiritual encounters. Topics include slave religions, the founding of independent Black churches, the Black musical heritage, Voodoo, and the legacies of Malcom X and Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black Lives Matter issues. The cornerstone of the course is the examination of how Social Justice and spiritual expression are interconnected and socially constructed. Prerequisite(s): SOC 100 CC: LCC
