HST 106 - Comparative Global History from 1800

Course Units: 1
(Spring; Mazumder) This course examines the broad themes in world history from the 19th century onwards, beginning with the rise of the nation-state and the expansion of European and subsequently Japanese imperialism. It looks at the indigenous and global response to colonialism, the impulse of nationalism and the quest for modernity, as well as how race and gender came to be rethought and reconfigured going into the 20th century. We will examine the impact of the two world wars. the process of decolonization. the Cold War and the rise of globalization in the late 20th century.
