(Spring; Lullo) Central Asia - broadly defined as the area occupied, from East to West, by present-day western China, Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, northern India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran - has been characterized as both harsh wasteland and cultural crossroads.
