EGL 269 - New Women around the World Course Units: 1.0 The idea of the New Woman emerged around the world in the first half of the twentieth century. This class will examine how literature represented and responded to the global phenomenon of the New Woman, tracing how various national, racial, and colonial contexts gave rise to distinct iterations of the New Woman and examining the linkages among the many geographical and political regions in which she appeared. Prerequisite(s): One 100-level English course or a score of 5 on the AP English Language or Literature and Composition test. CC: JLIT, JCHF, WAC ISP: AFR, AIS, AMS, GSWS
