HST 103 - World History of Capitalism Course Units: 1 This course explores the economic history of the United States, in particular the development of a system of capitalism that continues to shape our lives today. We ask a number of key questions: what is capitalism? When did the U.S. become capitalist? How did the capitalist economic system shape people’s everyday lives at different points in the past? Reading a wide range of primary and secondary sources, we will explore the experiences of those who supported this particular economic system and those who felt left out or exploited by capitalist economics. Ultimately, we will develop tools to better understand the ideological and economic world we live in now. CC: LCC, SOCS
