EGL 240 - Black EcoJustice Writing Course Units: 1 We will explore ecojustice literature from selected cultures of the African continent (especially Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, and those active in the Network of African Women Environmentalists) and the African Diaspora (mostly U.S.). We will pay attention to gendered aspects of Black EcoJustice as it intersects with racialized and labor-based experiences. While we parse environmental problems, we will also imagine possible solutions and the way literature might contribute to solutions. We will keep in mind that, along with resistances to injustices, EcoJustice also includes celebrations of nature within Black communities and within literature by Black writers. Prerequisite(s): One 100-level English course of a score of 5 on the AP English Language or Literature and Composition test. CC: WAC, HUM, JLIT, JSPE ISP: AFR, AMS, ESPE, GSWS, LAW
