CLS 220T -  Experiencing Roman Britain

Course Units: 1
The course will run at the site of Eboracum, the ancient Roman name for the modern city of York. It is a place with significant remains of Roman Britain on view to the public. We will think about the city’s ancient past, as well as how that past plays a role in the city’s present. We will consider the lives of people in Roman Britain generally and Roman York more precisely, from the occupation by the Romans until their departure. We will use a variety of approaches to reconstruct the lives of people in the region, including historical and literary texts, material culture, and epigraphy.
