EGL 195 - Confronting the Canon: Troy Story Course Units: 1 Why do we keep retelling the story of Troy-and who gets left out each time we do? “Troy Story” examines various narratives of the legend of Troy across literature, drama, and art work. Moving through readings by Homer, Chaucer, Spenser, and Shakespeare, we will explore challenging, difficult works that have become pillars of the Western canon. The course will then shift to contemporary retellings such as The Song of Achilles that critique previous works. The culmination of the course will offer students the opportunity to choose a contemporary response to the Troy legend to explore.
100-level courses are open to all students. CQ: JLIT, WAC
