MER 216 -  Finite Element Analysis

Course Units: 1
This course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of fundamental topics in Finite Element Method (FEM) with hands-on experience in numerical implementation. Focus is placed in modeling solids with varying material properties, choosing appropriate boundary conditions -simulating real world scenarios, performing analysis, and interpreting the numerical results. The tools learned in this course have practical applications in the mechanical, civil, ocean, and aeronautical industries. Term project involves use of the general purpose finite element analysis program - Abaqus. Theory is put into practice via computer-based implementation in Abaqus as much as possible for each topic covered. Prerequisite(s): Take MER 214    with a grade of C- or better. CQ: SET
