AAH 206 - The Renaissance Tradition in Architecture, 15th-18th CenturiesCourse Units: 1 (Not offered 2015-16) An historical survey that examines the language and functions of architecture and its roles in Western European culture. The course begins with the revival of interest in classical antiquity in the 1400s in Italy and its effect on the practice and theory of architecture. We then examine the transmission of these ideas to northern Europe during the subsequent centuries, and the evolution of architectural ideas and practices both north and south of the Alps.
