MER 494 - Engineering Design Competition Team Senior Practicum 1Course Units: 0 (Fall, Winter, Spring) By completing 3 consecutive terms (MER494, 495, and 496) students participating at the level of senior designer and/or system design lead on a departmentally approved engineering design competition team (e.g. SAE Aero, SAE Baja, ASME Human Powered Vehicle) are eligible to earn one “Mechanical Engineering Depth Elective” credit subject to the following restrictions: The student must have senior standing, the student must also complete MER487 to meet their WS requirement, the student must complete MER311, 333, and 322 before or concurrently with registration in 494-496, the student’s specific design responsibilities must be approved by the team’s faculty adviser prior to registration. Weekly meetings with the faculty adviser are required, as is travel to and participation in the design competition. Registration requires approval of the selected team’s faculty adviser who will grade the student. The credit and grade accrue with the completion of MER496 Prerequisite(s): Approval of Team Faculty Advisor Corequisite(s): MER 311 , MER 322 , and MER 333 , plus Senior Standing in Mechanical Engineering.
