EGL 305 - The Beatles and Bob Dylan: Three Chords and a Revolution

Course Units: 1
(Winter, Jenkins) It’s hard to overestimate the impact of the Beatles and Bob Dylan both on the culture of the 60s and on our culture today. The Beatles redefined popular music and made it an art; Dylan redefined folk music and made it poetry. But that is only part of their impact: they changed popular fashions and made protest popular; they gave youth a voice and power; they changed a generation’s consciousness and became their consciences. In effect, they helped make a revolution. This course will examine all of these topics and more. No musical knowledge necessary beyond a good ear and an open mind. HUL
