CLS 139 - City of Rome

Course Units: 1.0
This course examines the city of Rome, addressing sites in their historical and cultural contexts. The focus is the ancient city, but we also examine the city at various periods in history, including World War II and the present day. We consider how and why a city gets built, what it means to live in a city, and who we can “read a city.” Topics covered include venues of spectatorship, religious sites, the city of the emperors, water systems and roads, the political city, and travel and tourism. All readings are in English. CC: LCC, HUM
