HST 280 - Epidemics and Empire Course Units: 1 Do epidemics have different values across the world? Whose bodies appear to be more contagious than others? What is the politics of the creation of these differences? This course will allow us to study the history of epidemics such as cholera, bubonic plague, influenza, HIV/AIDS across the modern world so that we can find answers to these questions: when did disease become racial, when did some deaths matter more than others, and why did these differences become so enduring that we saw them in the 21st century exposure to a pandemic, the Covid 19?
