SPN 417 - Death and Revenge in the Southern Cone

This course examines the dictatorship in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. Through analysis of cultural products including narrative, theater, and film, students will reflect on themes and questions such as the effects of torture and terrorism on society, the constraints of censorship, and revenge. We will read texts by Marta Traba, Luisa Valenzuela, Diana Raznovich, Eduardo Pavlovsky, Ariel Dorfman, among others. Films will include Camila and Death and the Maiden, among others.
