SPN 330 - Hispanic Women Writers Who Challenged the World

This course focuses on Latin American and Spanish women’s contemporary (from 19th century to the present) short fiction. It centers on the close reading of selected works that deal with some of the most significant formative female experiences and perspectives in contemporary Latin-American societies: maternity, patriarchy, feminicide, among others. The course examines how women’s creative expressions explore political and social realities that question the laws and myths surrounding their formation, call critical attention to the foundations and manifestations of a patriarchal order, and offer alternative visions of, or models for, a renewed social life.
