SPN 419 - Health, Environment, and Indigeneity: Decolonizing the Hispanic World

In this class, students will learn to adopt a decolonial perspective, which involves learning the knowledge produced in the Global South and rethinking Latin America through the lens of historically marginalized communities. The Hispanic World has been shaped by the encounters between the native inhabitants and European colonizers in the Americas since the late 15th century. Recognizing the complex relationship among different native cultures and languages in the region is crucial for historical reparation and for understanding the current social and environmental context Prerequisite(s): Two 300-level courses.
