Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies (GSWS) is an interdisciplinary program that draws from the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Centering gender as a critical category of analysis, GSWS challenges traditional assumptions, advances feminist and queer methodologies, and fosters an understanding of the complex social positions and global forces shaping all genders. Courses examine how cultures construct gender and sexuality, emphasizing differences of race, class, ethnicity, and age across diverse societies. Students are encouraged to think critically about intersectionality and to question taken-for-granted ideas about sex, gender, and power.
