HST 315 - Race and Constitution

Course Units: 1
(Spring; Aslakson) One purpose of this course is to help you better understand the role of race in the legal, constitutional, and political history of the United States. Issues regarding race and slavery have been a constant source of constitutional debate (in one way or another) from the drafting of the Constitution until the present day. Focusing on racial issues, this course examines the historical context in which the Constitution of the United States was drafted and ratified and explores the various methods by which its meaning has changed since 1787. Therefore, this course is about both race in America as well as the Constitution and Constitutional interpretation. CC: LCC
