SPN 418 - Of Cock Fights and Crowded Elevators: Readings in Contemporary Mexican TheaterCourse Units: 1 (Not Offered this Academic Year) Readings in contemporary Mexican theater that seek to explore how Mexican playwrights stage, perform, and imagine the nation and their communities either contesting or legitimizing hegemonic narratives of cultural uniformity, normative gender and sexual roles, and a cohesive political state. We will analyze dramatic texts by Luisa Josefina Hernández, Hugo Argüelles, Leonor Azcárate, Tomás Urtusástegui, Dante del Castillo, Jesús González Dávila, Sabina Berman, Hugo Salcedo, among others.
