AAH 220 - (120) Reformation, Counter-Reformation, RevolutionCourse Units: 1 (Not Offered this Academic Year) This course will cover the major European art movements of the 17th and 18th centuries. It will be structured chronologically and treat the art of the Catholic Counter-reformation, the “Golden Age” in the Netherlands, the art under the absolute monarchy in France, the Rococo period, and the rise of Neo-classicism during the Enlightenment. We will examine the stylistic characteristics of these major movements, and explore the relationships between art and religious, political, and cultural history.
