Requirements for the Major:

Twelve courses plus one full theater practicum credit. Students may focus their studies in one of three areas: Performance, Design and Technology or Directing and Theory.

Required courses:

ATH 110 - Stage Craft 1
ATH 112 - Acting 1
ATH 111 - Introduction to Design
Or other Design Course
ATH 243 - History of Theater
or
ATH 348 - Global Performance Tradition
ATH 497 - Theater One Term Senior Project
One full theatre practicum credit
An experience in Stage Management generally fulfilled through either ATH 124 and a practicum in the area of stage management
or
ATH 494 - Stage Management: Theater Independent Study

Note: Students choose five or six courses, depending upon whether they take a one or two term senior thesis, from the “menu” of options in consultation with their faculty advisor. Majors are expected to audition for or work on term productions. Students are encouraged to take practicums and courses in Dance as well as Theater, and may use a Dance practicum towards their full practicum credit requirement.

Requirements for Honors in Theater:

Candidates must satisfy college qualifications for honors, hold at least a 3.5 or better GPA in department courses and receive a grade of at least “A minus” for their Senior Project. Requires Faculty approval.
